Leek's Mayor, Cllr Lyn Swindlehurst, has put out a plea for more volunteers to get involved with helping exciting events happen in the town. Read her thoughts below:

Having been involved in many of the events in Leek, in one way or another, I am mindful of the value of the work done by volunteers to make these events happen at all, and to happen safely. Events bring vital visitors and revenue to our town that benefits us all. Such events cannot function without volunteers. Signing up to volunteer on a regular basis may be impossible for some people to fit into daily lives, but to volunteer for a one off local event may be a way to enjoy the event whilst helping make it happen. Volunteers know it is not about what you have in life, but about who you helped, what you've made happen, and what you made better. It's about giving back. Our community experiences art, music from local, national, and international artists, literary events, children's events and entertainment, Scooterfest, the list is endless, all for free. Our children and grandchildren benefit from fun family days. Contributing to such activities makes people engaged and involved and is a great role model to our children and young people to make part of their lives about giving back. You only have to look at what our Town Crier brings to the town, all voluntarily, to see how successful an individual can be. If you feel you can give as much or as little time as you have available please get in touch with me. If you don't like it you need only do it once, what's to lose?

Winston Churchill put it well - "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give".

Lyn Swindlehurst, Leek Town Mayor.
