Churnet Valley Railway have asked for people with knowledge of local rail history to help them find out more about train operations in the area.

Along with the North Staffordshire Railway Company, the local railway are trying to find out the final steam operations to and from Leek under British Railways in the 1960s.

Anyone who may be able to help has been asked to contact them.

Jon Kerr from Churnet Valley Railway said: "The North Staffordshire Railway Company is calling upon its followers for help. They are trying to piece together the final steam operations to/from Leek under British Railways in the 1960s.

"They have learned that BR 75035 hauled the last workman's trains into Leek on 2nd January 1965 bringing an end to passenger traffic, but parcel traffic continued to serve the town with steam still available in the area until August 1967.

"They have received a record shot of a Black Five shunting in June 1967 but with no ID, and been made aware various Standard 4MTs appeared in 1967. Is anyone out there able to assist with their knowledge though, possibly even a photograph?

"Sadly the Train Register from Leek Brook Junction signal box has not made it into the NSRC archive collection covering this period, nor any traffic records from Stoke Shed which organised loco duties in the area up until August 1967. If there is someone out there who can fill the blanks then the NSRC would love them to get in touch and possibly answer this question. Their email address is [email protected]"
