Leek bus route saved after service was cancelled just four days since starting

A new bus service launched to transport residents between Leek and Macclesfield on a route from Ashbourne to Manchester has been relaunched after it was cancelled only four days since its launch.

Leek Nub News reported previously how X1 service, run by Hulleys of Baslow, began on Monday this week (6th September), but came to an end yesterday (Thursday), with the company blaming a lack of drivers for the cancellation.

Residents have reacted with disappointment at the sudden change, and Hulleys have apologised for "letting people down".

However, it has now been announced that Aimee's Travel will take over the running of the route, and began yesterday, meaning there was no period where travellers were left without the buses they needed to catch.

And to make matters even better, the service will be free until further notice.

A spokesperson said: "We would like to announce that as of Thursday we will be serving the 109, Leek to Macclesfield.

"We apologise for the late notice but we have been working hard to get everything finalised ready for the big day.

"I'm sure that you all have seen over social media that things haven't gone quite to plan with the new X1 service takeover but all of us at Aimee's travel wish Hulleys all the best in the future.

"We will be operating the same timetable as D&G currently were before the takeover with plans to improve in the future.

"Due to all the last minute rush this service will be free to all customers until further notice.

"Timetables will be available on the bus and we will hopefully have our website updated within the next few days.

"We look forward to meeting all our old customers and friends and look forward to meeting new customers over the next several years.

"Should you require a timetable call Louise on 01538 385050 or email [email protected]"
