A Leek boy has been growing his hair for two years to donate it to a charity that provides wigs for young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other illnesses.
Faris Edge, aged nine, has been growing his hair since 2020 and is finally due to have it cut next month in order to donate it to the Little Princess Trust.
He is also using his hair growing challenge to raise money for his school, St Mary's Primary School in Leek. He has aimed to raise £250 and is already most of the way there, having raised a total of £195 so far,
Faris' mum Marie explained how proud she was of her son's amazing efforts.
She said: "Faris decided he wanted to do something to help others. In 2020 he started growing his hair, so he could donate it to the Little Princess Trust, so wigs could be made for children suffering from cancer.
"Its taken just over two years, during which he's been picked on for having long hair, called a girl, and been told to get his hair cut, but despite all this he has stuck with it. To say I'm proud is an under statement!
"We are hoping to get it cut soon and Faris has decided to ask for sponsors so he can raise money for his school St Mary's Primary School in Leek. The school does a lot of work for Mary's Meals, which is an organisation that provides hot school food in areas hit by poverty.
"I know we are in very challenging times, so I understand if people can not give but I just want to thank those in advance that are able to sponsor Faris. He is an amazing boy who has such a big heart and I know he will be so delighted with any amount, no matter how small, that he manages to raise."
