Karen Bradley: In this week's column on Nub News, the Moorlands MP has discussed a range of local topics including flooding, farming and businesses.
I receive a great deal of requests for help and whilst some cases can be resolved fairly quickly, others are more complicated. The ongoing issue of flooding in Endon is an example of this and I was pleased to arrange a meeting at the Methodist Church in Endon recently together with Staffordshire County Council councillor for Biddulph South and Endon - Keith Flunder and SCC Flood risk manager - Jamie Cooper. I heard from members of Endon Flood Action Group about their experiences of flooding and was given an update on the work SCC have been doing to try and secure suitable locations to install Natural Flood Management defences. These will create temporary storage that fills up during a flood event and then slowly releases water back into the river, reducing the peak water flow. SCC have said they will continue to work with local land owners in an attempt to find a sufficient amount of water storage upstream from Endon to enable the scheme to begin. Last week, I held a zoom call with representatives from the local National Farmers Union and some of our Moorlands farmers. It is a while since we have met and it is always good to speak to our fantastic farmers. It was useful to hear from them and I will make sure that Ministers are aware of their concerns. I am always pleased to be invited to visit local businesses and this time it was the turn of Eddie Sims at Edgefields farm in Stockton Brook. I visited the cattle shed and heard about how he breeds and sells Limousin cattle. We also spoke about the Leek Show and how preparations are going well for this. I personally am really looking forward to being able to attend this very special local event again.Don't forget to sign up to our newsletter below to get the top 10 Leek stories of the week delivered straight to your inbox every Friday!
