On the 6th of April at 1pm, an event commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day 2022 will be held at Trinity Church, on Derby Street in Leek, in collaboration with Leek Town Council and I (Tilly Thorley). I work as an Ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust. On the day I will be discussing the contemporary relevance of the Holocaust, and how I developed my views and interest into Holocaust research and awareness after completing the trust's 'Lessons From Auschwitz' programme in 2020 where I had the opportunity to visit. There will be a discussion from Rev Eleanor Smith of Endon Methodist Church on 'What is genocide?' as well as comments and poem readings from the Town Mayor & Deputy Mayor. There will be a song performed about the present situation in Ukraine, and a collection of funds for Leek and Cheddleton Aid Support for Ukraine, where funds will be used to cover transport costs from delivery of goods to those in need. Any cash donations would be sincerely appreciated in this time of crisis. Please join us for this commemorative and reflective event, to discuss and remember the importance of individual stories in Holocaust remembrance, in line with the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust's 2022 theme of 'One Day'. There will be a candle lighting and reflective silence for all of those who have lost their lives in genocides. Feel free to bring along your own candles. I hope to see you there!
