A flood alert issued for the River Churnet has been lifted this morning (Wednesday) although heavy rain is forecast for the rest of the day in Leek.
River levels are high because of rapid melt of Sunday's snowfall and rainfall in the last two days.
Yesterday, the Met Office put in place a flood alert for the Churnet and River Tean between Adderley and Spath, including Cecilly Brook at Cheadle.
It stated there was a risk of flooding, particularly low-lying land and roads next to the River Churnet.
The alert has now been lifted, but the Met Office is forecasting heavy showers for the Leek area for the rest of the day with day-time temperatures peaking at 6C.
Like other parts of North Staffordshire Leek was hit hard by the weekend's wintry weather with snow drifts affecting routes, including the A53 Leek to Buxton road which was shut on Saturday and Sunday.
