Art students at Leek College have set up a fundraiser to help them hold an exhibition displaying their work in May.

The students are hoping to hold the ASTOUND exhibition for 2022. The exhibition has been running since 2009 and lets students showcase their work and contribute to the art scene in Leek.

The students said: "We are a group of students in our final year of a foundation degree in Art and Design Practice from the University of Derby. The degree is taught from Leek's historic School of Art in Leek College. We are organising the ASTOUND 22 exhibition which will showcase our work."

They explained that the exhibition feels more significant than ever this year as it offered an opportunity to reinvigorate Leek's art scene following the pandemic.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday 13th May to Saturday 28th May, and the students are hoping to raise £750 ahead of its opening, having raised £300 so far.

The money will be used to help promote the event and also to ensure that it can be free to attend for all members of the public.

The students added: "The setting for the show is unique, with the original Victorian art rooms, designed in 1881 by William Sugden, being transformed into a contemporary gallery space.

"Your donation will help us to promote ASTOUND 22, produce an exhibition brochure, and ensure that we are able to produce a professional art exhibition that is free at the point of entry to all members of the town and local community.

"Even the smallest of donations would be really appreciated in showing your support for the event, if you are unable to help, we still hope you can come along to support ASTOUND 22."
