Firefighters were called into action in Leek yesterday after the stormy weather caused a shop's sign to be blown off.

The large sign above the Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop on Derby Street was blown off early yesterday morning (Monday 21st February), revealing the sign of the previous Lateshopper that used to occupy the building.

Firefighters, police and highways crews all attended and found that the wind had caused damage to the sign.

Luckily nobody was injured, and crews made the area safe before leaving.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called to Derby Street, Leek, at around 7.25am yesterday (Monday 21 February) following reports of the inclement weather impacting a business premises.

"A crew from Burslem attended as did officers from the local authority, Highways and Staffordshire Police.

"On arrival, the crew found a number of signs coming off the side of a building due to gusts of wind.

"No one was injured. The building has since been secured. Crews left the scene at around 8.05am."
