Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended Cheddleton today due to a blaze at the playing fields brought on by extreme heat.

It is not yet known how the fire was started, although witnesses said that the combination of dry grass and very high temperatures would have played a part.

Luckily the fire brigade arrived promptly and were able to extinguish the fire before it had the chance to spread too far.

Cheddleton Parish Cllr Ian Dakin said: "A big thankyou to the Fire Brigade and to the man on his way to work who was first to call in the fire on the playingfield. There has been a fire near the benches at the view point. It has now been put out.

"Don't know how this started, but is very hot and the grass is dry.

"Please take great care with anything that could cause a fire."

Nub News has contacted Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service for comment.
