With less than a week to go before this year's Staffordshire Day celebrations on Saturday 1st May, organisers have unveiled an exciting programme of events and activities.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the sixth annual Staffordshire Day, organised by Enjoy Staffordshire with the help of Staffordshire County Council and other local authority partners, is taking place mostly online, with a packed schedule of craft workshops, quizzes, guided tours, cooking demonstrations and more!
Highlights include chocolate tasting from Stoke-on-Trent's Seed Chocolate, a pig walk from Peak Wildlife Park, a tour of the Nelson's Gin distillery near Uttoxeter and poetry from Staffordshire Poet Laureate Mel Wardle Woodend (Stafford) and Young Poet Laureate Emily Galvin (Lichfield).
For the first time, the programme will also include a virtual market – featuring 50 Staffordshire food & drink producers and artisan craft businesses – and a film festival which has received entries from film-makers across the county.
There will also be archive film footage of the Reliant Robin factory in Tamworth and a short documentary about the huge anchor for the Titanic, which was made in Netherton (then part of South Staffordshire) in 1910.
Darryl Eyers, Director for Economy, Infrastructure & Skills at Staffordshire County Council said: "With just a matter of days to go now and a packed programme of activities, we are all incredibly excited about our Staffordshire Day celebrations.
"Over the last five years, we've used Staffordshire Day to tell the world what a great county we are. We have so much to shout about, from our amazing people, rich heritage and culture to our stunning locations and places to visit.
"There's loads happening on the day from poetry sessions, to old video footage of the county, our first ever Staffordshire Day Film Festival and our Love Letters to Staffordshire campaign. So whatever you're interested in, we'll have something for you. Make sure the date is in your diary, join in the fun, and help us share our pride in our amazing county."
