It's election time, and candidates all over the country are battling for the public's votes ahead of the big day on May 6th.

This also goes for Leek, where two seats at Staffordshire County Council are up for grabs - one in Leek South, and one in Leek Rural.

With the election getting closer by the day, we got in touch with all seven Leek candidates to ask them to briefly explain in their own words why they think they deserve your vote.

Over the next few days, we will be posting their responses so you can read what they had to say and make your decision.

Next it's the turn of Linda Malyon, who is standing in Leek Rural as an Independent.

Linda is a district and parish councillor representing the Ipstones ward.

She said: "I am Linda Malyon I have been a Ipstones District and Parish councillor for 30 years and I believe I can make a difference if elected to the County Council Leek Rural Ward.

"These are some of the issues I will work hard towards change for the better:

"- I will challenge the quality of services that some providers give to our elderly.

"- Improve facilities/events for young people.

"- A better public transport system for rural areas .

"- Work getting better road repairs in our part of the County.

"- Getting safer speed limits in rural areas.

"- Getting tips to take rubbish without charge.

"- Work with the emergency services as they do an amazing work.

"- As we come out of COVID-19, support communities with the after-effect.

"- Promote and encourage everyone to support our farmers and local businesses/buy local from smaller shops.

"- Encourage councils to allow cafes and bars to put tables/chairs outside, we need to grow and get people back having that feel good factor about our beautiful area.

"- It's very important to get everyone being more pro active towards Climate Control, this can be done by working with Parish/Town councils and community groups, lets do it for our children/grandchildren.

"I would be honoured to represent Leek Rural, please vote Linda Malyon on 6th May 2021."
