Country pub on outskirts of Leek announces closure in 'difficult decision'
Customers were saddened to learn that an idyllic countryside pub just outside Leek will no longer be pulling pints after it announced that it will soon be closing.
The Reform Inn, which is located on Anchors Lane in Thorncliffe, around a mile outside Leek, has made the "difficult decision" to close its doors, but added that it has been an "incredible journey" over the eight years that it has been open.
The pub remains open for now, with its last day open being in two weeks' time on Thursday, 10th November.
Landlord and landlady Nick and Lucy said in a social media post on Monday: "After much soul searching and deliberation we have made the difficult decision to close the pub.
"Almost 8 years ago, back in 2014, when we both left our jobs to pursue our pipe dream of opening what was then The Red Lion, we could never have imagined the incredible journey we were about to embark on.
"Many thought we were totally mad and we're not gonna lie, 'steep learning curve' really doesn't do justice to the first year or so. However, we soon found our groove and it wasn't long until the cogs started turning on yet another crazy idea and we began the in-depth planning of The Red Lion refurb into The Reform Inn.
"The refurb truly was the most intense three weeks. By the skin of our teeth we achieved the deadline but only thanks again to the generosity and help from family, friends and staff which will never be forgotten by either of us.
"The last two years have been up and down to say the least and like many, recent events have made us reassess our lives. It is time for both of us to start a new chapter and for the time being at least that has unfortunately left us with no other option but closing the doors on the pub.
"For now though we would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, for your custom and many of you, your friendship. We would also like to say the hugest thank you to all our staff, old and new. We literally couldn't have done it without you. And of course Becky who has held the fort for the past two years in what has been challenging times to say the least.
"We are so proud of what we have all achieved. It has been a blast!"
People have since expressed their support, with the announcement receiving hundreds of supportive comments on social media.
One person commented: "So sad to hear that you are closing. Food and service has always been outstanding. Good luck in the next chapter of your lives."
Another added: "I am so sorry to hear that you are closing. We have had some very special evenings in your lovely pub. Drinks, food and service was always exceptional."
And a third said: "Good luck to you both and all the staff, we will certainly miss the place and everyone we see there."
