Parking in Leek will be made free for a day, Leek Town Council has announced.

The authority made the announcement today (Tuesday) that parking will be free in the town on Saturday, 1st May.

All Staffordshire Moorlands District Council car parks will be free all day, and no ticket will be required. Short stay car parks will also be free for the first three hours.

Flags and bunting will also be displayed in the town on the day to "brighten up the atmosphere".

A spokesperson for Leek Town Council said: "Leek's town centre shops, cafes and bars will be open on Saturday 1st May.

"And good news for those who need to drive into town. The SMDC long stay car parks will be free of charge all day.

"No tickets are required. The short stay car parks are also free for the first three hours.

"The town council has also arranged to put up some flags and bunting to help brighten up the atmosphere and celebrate our amazing shops and market traders."
