Local MPs including Moorlands MP Karen Bradley and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council leader Sybil Ralphs met on Friday to continue their campaign to reopen the Leek to Stoke railway line.

The group visited the line near the canal at the border of the Staffordshire Moorlands and Stoke-on-Trent.

Leek Nub News reported back in March how local MPs had submitted a bid to restore the line.

The bid was submitted by Moorlands MP Karen Bradley, as well as Stoke North MP Jonathan Gullis and Stoke Central MP Jo Gideon to the Restoring Your Railway fund.

It comes after a petition to restore the line was signed by over 1,000 residents and presented to the House of Commons in December.

Also in March, Boris Johnson weighed in on a bid to reopen the Leek to Stoke railway line after being asked about the plans. He explained that a decision on the bid would be made over the summer.

Following the latest meeting, Moorlands MP Karen Bradley said: "It was great to be joined by Cllr Sybil Ralphs MBE and neighbouring MPs on Friday to continue with our campaign for the reopening of the Leek to Stoke railway line.

"As we visited the line near the canal at the border of the Staffordshire Moorlands and Stoke-on-Trent, people told us how much they would like to see the trains return. I will do all I can to make sure that we have the best chance possible."
